Ms. Chang Yen-ching, Director-General of the Department of Administrative and International Affairs of Kaohsiung City Government, noted that Kaohsiung has actively promoted diverse cooperation with Europe in recent years, such as facilitating the Spanish Chamber of Commerce to host the Spanish National Day celebration in Kaohsiung for the first time. For two consecutive years, the city has partnered with the French Office in Taipei and Association des français de Taiwan to host the "Kaohsiung French Festival," attracting over 100,000 attendees and becoming a major cultural event in Taiwan. Kaohsiung has also established formal partnerships with several European cities, signing a letter of intent with Gdynia, Poland, last year and a memorandum of understanding with Poznań, Poland, this year. Kaohsiung is also deepening its ties with Bratislava, Slovakia. By participating in the International Urban and Regional Cooperation (IURC), Kaohsiung hopes to expand economic and cultural cooperation opportunities between Kaohsiung and Europe through city partnerships.
